Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in New York on Wednesday to attend United Nations General Assembly meetings, where he is scheduled to address the Assembly on behalf of Iran and hold talks with a number of heads of state and officials taking part in the meetings.
Iranian state media announced that Pezeshkian had arrived at one of New York’s airports, while the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting published a video showing the Iranian president disembarking from the plane. His arrival followed a technical stop by his aircraft in Algeria during the flight to the United States.
Pezeshkian’s programme for the New York meetings
Habibollah Abbasi, director-general of public relations at the Iranian presidency, said the visit’s programme included Pezeshkian addressing the United Nations General Assembly, as well as holding meetings and talks with a number of heads of state and officials attending the meetings in New York.
The Iranian president’s agenda also includes a meeting with Iranian figures living in the United States, as well as scheduled meetings with American figures and representatives of research centres, according to the visit programme reported by the Iranian News Agency, IRNA. As Pezeshkian was in New York, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran had contacted the United States through a Qatari mediator and conveyed a set of conditions.
Iranian conditions conveyed to Washington
He said the conditions included ending the war on all fronts and halting what he described as American “acts of aggression”. Baghaei added that the demands Iran conveyed to the American side also included ending the naval blockade and economic warfare, as well as the release of Iranian assets.
The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman’s comments came amid the diplomatic activity accompanying the General Assembly meetings and the talks held on their sidelines in New York.
