Belgium returned to winning ways in the Nations League after beating visitors Turkey 3-0 on Friday evening at the City of Liège stadium in the third round of League A Group 1, taking their tally to 6 points and continuing to chase group leaders France.
De Bruyne leads Belgium to victory over Turkey
Kevin De Bruyne led Belgium to victory with two goals, opening the scoring in the 10th minute before returning in the second half to add the second in the 60th minute. Striker Romelu Lukaku completed the three-goal haul in the 75th minute, 15 minutes before the end. The result left Belgium second, one point behind France.
Turkey, meanwhile, remained bottom of the group without a point after suffering their third consecutive defeat in the competition. Belgium will travel to face France next Monday, in a meeting between the teams in first and second place.
Belgium and Turkey prepare for their next-round matches
Turkey will travel to Italy to face the hosts in the next round. In League B, Hungary beat visitors Georgia 1-0 at the Puskás Aréna in Group 6. Milos Kerkez scored the only goal in the 35th minute to give his country all three points.
The same group also saw Ukraine lose 3-0 to Northern Ireland in a match played by the Ukrainian team at its designated home venue in Slovakia. Syron Brown scored twice for Northern Ireland, while Isaac Price scored the other goal.
In League B Group 4, Poland recorded a comprehensive 6-0 victory over visitors Romania in the capital Warsaw. Poland benefited from their opponents being reduced to 10 men early on after Romanian defender Radu Dragusin was sent off in the 22nd minute. Robert Lewandowski topped Poland's scorers with a hat-trick.
Another goal came through Romania's Virgil Ghita, who scored an own goal, while Piotr Zielinski and Jan Bednarek scored the other two goals in Poland's six-goal haul. In another match in the group, Sweden drew 1-1 with hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Striker Viktor Gyokeres put Sweden ahead in the 61st minute, but Kerim Alajbegovic equalised for the hosts in the 80th minute. Sweden retained top spot in Group 4 after the draw with 7 points, while Bosnia and Herzegovina were second with 5 points. Poland moved to 4 points in third place, while Romania remained bottom without a point.
