German Kevin Osipka set a world record after completing the distance of a full marathon using burpee movements, covering 42.195 kilometres in 155 hours, 44 minutes and 51 seconds on an athletics track in Baunatal, near the German city of Kassel.

30,000 movements over more than 6 days

A burpee involves lowering oneself to the ground, then getting up and jumping forward with both feet together. Osipka thereby surpassed the previous record, set by Australian Norman Eagle, of 180 hours and 36 minutes.

From a short trial to marathon distance

The idea of undertaking the marathon emerged after Osipka covered around 1.6 kilometres in the same manner during a training camp on the island of Crete, before deciding to expand the challenge to the full marathon distance.

Hyrox training and a world championship goal

Osipka works as a physiotherapist and has practised Hyrox since discovering it in 2024. He sometimes trains 9 times a week and is targeting qualification for the world championships scheduled for 2027 in Hong Kong.

Hyrox competitions combine running with strength and functional endurance exercises. They consist of 8 one-kilometre running rounds, interspersed with various physical exercises, including rowing, heavy sled pushes, long burpee jumps and walking while carrying heavy weights.
