Israeli forces entered agricultural land belonging to the town of Beit Jann in the western Damascus countryside on Saturday morning, 12 September 2026, as artillery shelling targeted the area around the town, in military movements that extended to areas in the Quneitra countryside. The Syrian Arab News Agency and Syrian News Agency reported that an artillery shell targeted the Ain al-Shaara area near Beit Jann and fell on agricultural land without causing injuries.

Israeli Vehicles Enter Beit Jann Lands

In the Quneitra countryside, Israeli forces entered the town of al-Rafid on Friday night and searched several homes, according to a Syria Now correspondent. The forces detained a father and his son before releasing them hours later. Another person detained during an incursion into the village of al-Hamidiyah at dawn that same day was also released on Friday.

Politically, the French Foreign Ministry on Friday called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Syrian territory and announced its support for the signing of a security agreement between the two sides. Paris said that any military deployment in the area separating Syria and Israel constituted a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, reaffirming its support for the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force.

Israeli military movements in southern Syria have expanded since Israel announced the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on 8 December 2024. The deployment included the buffer zone and other positions.
