An Israeli force left on Friday, 18 September 2026, a position it had advanced to on the outskirts of Deir Mimas in the Marjayoun district of southern Lebanon, following field tensions with the Lebanese Army near a temporary observation post. Lebanese soldiers returned to their main base after contacts to defuse the situation.
Observation post and Lebanese Army coordination
The Lebanese Army Command said one of its patrols had established the temporary observation post on the outskirts of Deir Mimas on 10 September 2026, in coordination with the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon, “MCG4L”, to accompany residents as they inspected their farmland.
The command added that an Israeli force approached the newly established post on 18 September. The post was located within what the Israeli forces call the “security zone”. The force fired stun grenades nearby, triggering a field alert between the two sides.
Lebanese reinforcements near Deir Mimas
The Lebanese Army strengthened its presence at the post after the Israeli force approached, as reinforcements and military equipment moved from the nearby area of Borj al-Muluk towards the vicinity of Deir Mimas to monitor developments and secure the area. Field reports said the Israeli force moved from the direction of Tall al-Nahas and included two Merkava tanks and armoured personnel carriers before reaching an area near the Lebanese Army’s deployment.
A Lebanese security source said the force came to within an estimated 100 metres of one of the Army’s positions, prompting Lebanese personnel to reposition themselves towards the north. The security source said the Lebanese Army went on alert in the area while insisting that the road linking Deir Mimas and Borj al-Muluk remain open, as it is used by residents of the town.
Field reports said temporary measures were imposed on the road during the period of tension between the two forces. According to the Lebanese Army Command, contacts were conducted through the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon to contain the situation, resulting in the Israeli force leaving the area. The force returned to its position at Tall al-Nahas, while the Lebanese Army maintained its presence and continued monitoring developments around Deir Mimas and Borj al-Muluk.
The Army Command confirmed that its personnel returned, after the incident ended, to their main base inside the town, and that the situation continued to be monitored in coordination with the “MCG4L” group, which handled contacts between the parties during the field alert.
