Actress Naglaa Fathi and Saif Allah Abu al-Naga bid farewell to their only daughter, Yasmine, in Cairo on Monday, in the presence of family members, artists and friends, after her father announced that she had died following a heart attack.

The funeral

The funeral prayer was held at Omar ibn Abdul Aziz Mosque next to Heliopolis Club, before the body was buried in the Abu al-Naga family cemetery in Heliopolis. Saif Allah Abu al-Naga attended the funeral despite his health condition, according to the source.

The funeral was attended by actresses Elham Shahin and Basma, musician Amr Selim, actress Fiedra, and director Khodor Mohamed Khodor, the deceased’s former husband, as well as a number of her relatives and friends.

Death announcement and condolence messages

Saif Allah Abu al-Naga had announced his daughter’s death on Facebook, saying that she had died following a heart attack. Cardiologist and former dean of the National Heart Institute Gamal Shaaban also mourned her, saying on the same platform that her death resulted from cardiac arrest.

A number of artists offered condolences to Naglaa Fathi and her family on social media, including Yousra, Hussein Fahmy, Nabila عبيد, Nadia al-Gendy, Khaled El Nabawy and Hend Sabry. Yousra said she had been unable to attend the funeral because she was outside Egypt, expressing her condolences to the deceased’s parents.

Away from the spotlight

Yasmine was Naglaa Fathi’s only daughter from her previous marriage to Saif Allah Abu al-Naga in the mid-1970s. She remained away from the spotlight and did not work in the arts, despite her family’s ties to Egypt’s artistic community.

According to the source, Yasmine had suffered from a congenital heart defect since birth, and the deterioration of her condition later required surgery. She married director Khodor Mohamed Khodor, and they had a daughter before ending their marriage in separation several years later.
