Egypt on Tuesday condemned the continuing attacks on Saudi Arabia and warned that their continuation could fuel tensions and intensify escalation in the region, affirming its full solidarity with the kingdom in confronting any threat targeting it. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the attacks constitute a clear violation of the rules of international law and a threat to regional stability and security.
Saudi Crown Prince’s visit to Cairo
Cairo renewed its categorical rejection of the attacks, stressing that Egyptian and Saudi national security are interconnected and integrated. The statement coincided with a working visit to Cairo by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is meeting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to discuss issues of mutual interest.
The talks are expected to include the latest Iranian escalation in the region, along with Houthi attacks on Saudi cities that wounded civilians. The Egyptian presidency said the meeting would address an exchange of views on regional developments, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations and advance joint cooperation.
Security coordination on the Red Sea and developments in the Bab el-Mandeb area top the agenda, given the strait’s strategic importance to global trade and international supply chains. The Saudi Crown Prince’s visit is part of ongoing political coordination between Cairo and Riyadh.
The Egyptian president made two visits to Saudi Arabia during the current year as part of consultations between the two countries’ leaderships on regional issues.
