Israel's emergency medical service said its teams transported a man to hospital in serious condition after he was injured in the incident at the military checkpoint.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health, for its part, said it had been notified of the death of 29-year-old Mahmoud Mohammed Mahmoud Suleiman, who was shot by Israeli forces near the village of Beit Ur al-Tahta, west of Ramallah. The ministry added that the forces were holding his body. The incident comes amid escalating violence in the West Bank, which has been under Israeli control since 1967, since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
An Israeli settler had been shot dead near Ramallah on the Sunday before the incident, while the Israeli army announced the arrest of a suspect in carrying out the attack. On the same day, the army said it had killed a Palestinian who had tried to ram its soldiers with a car near the city of Jenin in the northern West Bank.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war, at least 1,111 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers in the West Bank, according to an Agence France-Presse tally based on data issued by the Palestinian Authority.
