At least three Palestinians were killed and others injured on Saturday, 19 September 2026, in Israeli strikes and gunfire in different parts of the Gaza Strip, despite the continuing ceasefire that has been in place since 10 October 2025. Among those killed was Basir al-Barsh, the son of Munir al-Barsh, the director-general of the Ministry of Health in the Strip.

Basir al-Barsh killed in Jabalia camp

Palestinian medical sources and medics said Basir al-Barsh was killed in an Israeli strike near Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip. His father, Munir al-Barsh, said during a press interview that his son had been with him inside a tent in the camp before leaving it and being targeted. Al-Barsh added that he had not known those would be the last moments he would see his son alive.

In his account of the incident, he linked his son’s killing to his leaving the tent where they had been staying in Jabalia camp. The Israeli army, meanwhile, said it had targeted a number of militants on Saturday and that Basir al-Barsh was among them, without providing further details about the strike or the circumstances of the targeting.

Additional deaths and injuries in Gaza

According to members of the al-Barsh family and medics, Munir al-Barsh lost his daughter in an Israeli air strike in December 2023 and was himself injured in the attack. Palestinian medical sources said Basir was the third of al-Barsh’s sons to be killed during the war in the Gaza Strip. In a separate incident, another Palestinian was killed in an Israeli strike targeting the Shuja’iyya neighbourhood east of Gaza City.

Gaza’s Civil Defence also said it had recovered the body of a Palestinian from a civilian vehicle hit in a strike in the Sheikh Radwan market area, north-west of the city. The Palestine Red Crescent said its teams had treated seven people injured in the targeting. The teams transferred five of the injured to the association’s Saraya Field Hospital, while two injured people, described as being in critical condition, were taken to al-Shifa Hospital for treatment.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health said hospitals in the Strip had received four bodies and 17 injured people over the past 48 hours. It added that the number of deaths recorded since the ceasefire took effect on 10 October 2025 had reached 1,390, while the number of injured during the same period stood at 4,801.

The Ministry also said 831 bodies had been recovered from beneath the rubble since the ceasefire took effect. According to its data, the cumulative toll since the war broke out in October 2023 had risen to 73,910 killed and 174,914 injured.

The Ministry of Health said the new cumulative toll included the addition of records for 85 people killed, after their data had been reviewed and approved. The figures come as deaths and injuries continue to be recorded in different parts of the Gaza Strip during the ceasefire.
