Captain describes strike, fire and power outage
The agency said the tanker’s captain reported that the vessel had been “struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing out of the strait”. The captain said the strike caused a small fire on board the tanker, while power was cut as it exited the waterway. The agency added that the crew dealt with the fire, containing and extinguishing it.
It confirmed that no injuries among the crew had been reported and that no environmental damage resulting from the incident had been recorded. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency said the tanker resumed its voyage after the fire was brought under control.
The agency did not disclose the name of the vessel that was struck or identify the flag it was flying, limiting its report to the captain’s account and the announced findings of the incident.
