A Lebanese soldier was seriously wounded and three civilians were injured on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, in a strike carried out by an Israeli drone targeting a military vehicle in the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Army said. The strike coincided with two explosions and artillery shelling carried out by Israeli forces early on Wednesday in various areas of southern Lebanon, along with intensive warplane flights over the region.
Artillery shelling and explosions hit southern towns
The towns of Hadatha and Baraachit in the Bint Jbeil district of Nabatieh governorate were subjected to intermittent artillery shelling overnight, according to the Lebanese National News Agency. In the same district, Israeli forces carried out two explosions inside the forests of Beit Yahoun and Aita al-Jabal.
An Israeli Merkava tank also fired two shells early on Wednesday towards a house in the al-Deir area of Baraachit. In the Nabatieh district, artillery shelling hit the towns of Kfar Tebnit and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, while the town of Mansouri in the Tyre district of the South governorate came under similar shelling.
Toll of military operations and displacement in Lebanon
The southern areas saw intensive flights by Israeli fighter jets, coinciding with drones flying at very low altitude over the skies of the Marjayoun area, according to the Lebanese agency. These developments come amid ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon since 2 March. According to Lebanese authorities, those operations have killed more than 4,000 people and injured 12,000 others, while displacing more than one million people.
The operations continue despite the signing of a US-sponsored “framework agreement” on 26 June, which provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal in return for the deployment of the Lebanese Army and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
Israeli forces have controlled areas of southern Lebanon for decades and other areas since the previous war between 2023 and 2024. During the current operations, they have also advanced more than 10 kilometres into Lebanese territory.
