It added that the incident occurred during Israeli forces’ activity in southern Lebanon, noting that the investigation was still under way. The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that preliminary investigation findings showed the soldiers were injured in the town of Majdal Zoun when a hand grenade thrown during searches for suspects exploded.

According to the report, the grenade rolled after being thrown and came to rest near the soldiers before exploding. In a separate incident, an Israeli army spokesman said that two officer-course cadets in the Giv’en Battalion had been injured during military activity in southern Lebanon on Saturday, one seriously and the other moderately. The two injured men were taken to Rambam Hospital in Haifa for treatment.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that 159 soldiers had been killed in operational incidents since 7 October 2023. On the ground, field sources said Israeli warplanes carried out a series of strikes targeting Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Wadi al-Salouki, Qantara and Mansouri, as well as the area between Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kafr Tibnit.

The strikes coincided with extensive Israeli artillery shelling that hit Wadi Zibqin, Wadi al-Hujeir, Wadi al-Salouki and the Khiam plain. The shelling also reached the towns of Hadatha, Haris, Zawtar al-Sharqiya, Kafr Tibnit, Baraachit and Nabatieh al-Fawqa. Israeli forces carried out demolition operations in the towns of Beit Yahoun, Houla, Tallousa, Mansouri and Aitaroun, as well as on the outskirts of Baraachit.

They also fired illuminating flares over the towns of Mansouri and Kounine. The military operations come amid continuing obstacles to implementing the provisions of the framework agreement signed by Lebanon and Israel in June under US mediation.

The agreement provides for security arrangements including the gradual deployment of the Lebanese army and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, as well as measures related to reconstruction and economic recovery.
