Gas flow from the al-Jbessa plant to power-generation stations was halted on the evening of Monday, 28 September 2026, after a fire broke out on a gas pipeline between the al-Shoula area and the city of Deir ez-Zor, following the explosion of the pipeline’s sectional valve in what official information reported was an act of sabotage.

Fire crews isolate the site and battle the flames

Hisham al-Saleh, head of the gas sector at the Syrian Petroleum Company, said the fire had halted the flow of gas from the al-Jbessa plant to the power-generation stations, taking the pumping route through the damaged pipeline out of service. Al-Saleh said fire crews moved in immediately after the fire broke out and worked to isolate the area before and after the blaze, as part of measures to bring the incident under control and prevent it from spreading along the pipeline.

He added that the teams continued extinguishing operations as gas pressure in the area fell, allowing them to continue dealing with the fire.

The area extending between al-Shoula and Deir ez-Zor contains facilities and pipelines linked to gas production and transport.
