Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on several Ukrainian regions overnight from Monday into Tuesday, targeting industrial and military facilities, energy infrastructure and ports, killing four people and injuring others, according to Ukrainian officials.
Attack casualties in Dnipropetrovsk
The governor of Dnipropetrovsk region, Oleksandr Hanha, said Russian forces simultaneously targeted industrial facilities in the cities of Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih and Pavlohrad, using missiles, drones and artillery in the attack on four districts of the region. Hanha added that four people were killed and six others injured in the city of Dnipro, where a commercial facility and warehouses were severely damaged.
Air defence efforts and interception toll
The Air Force said the main targeted regions were Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad and Poltava, and that aviation, missile defence, electronic warfare, unmanned systems and mobile fire teams took part in countering the attack.
According to preliminary data up to 8am on Tuesday, the Ukrainian Air Force said it had shot down or disabled 186 aerial targets, including one Kalibr missile, eight Bandерol or Dan-T missiles and 177 drones. It added that missiles and drones struck 22 sites, while debris from intercepted targets fell at four other sites.
Power cuts and facility damage
In northern Ukraine, an attack on an energy facility in a neighbouring region cut power to around 100,000 customers in Chernihiv, according to a local electricity distribution company. In Poltava region, Governor Vitalii Diakivnych said a large-scale attack struck an industrial facility and a critical facility, while local authorities said an agricultural facility had also been targeted.
The Russian Defence Ministry, for its part, said its forces had carried out a large-scale strike using high-precision weapons launched from land, sea and air, along with drones. It said the targets included metallurgical and chemical industry facilities, the fuel and energy sectors, the military-industrial complex, as well as port infrastructure and vessels it said were operating for the benefit of the Ukrainian military.
The ministry said the target list included, according to its account, a facility in Kyiv producing components for long-range cruise missiles, a fuel depot used as a logistics hub, a metallurgical complex in Kryvyi Rih, a pipe-manufacturing plant in Dnipro, a facility producing solid rocket fuel and gunpowder in Pavlohrad, and logistics centres in Dnipropetrovsk region.
The Russian ministry also said its forces had targeted an oil refinery in Kremenchuk in Poltava region, port infrastructure facilities and naval vessels linked to Ukrainian military operations. It was not possible to independently verify the nature of the targets Moscow said it had struck. Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry said air-defence units had intercepted and destroyed 297 Ukrainian drones overnight over 14 Russian regions and the Crimean Peninsula.
The governor of Russia’s Samara region said an attack had targeted industrial facilities, killing one person and injuring four others. Ukraine’s special forces said they had targeted the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara, and that several drones had hit their targets and started a major fire at the facility.
Kyiv describes the refinery as a major fuel supplier in central Russia, while the regional governor did not specify the nature of the damaged industrial facilities.
