Israeli forces carried out two strikes on the town of Mيفدون in southern Lebanon on Sunday, 27 September 2026, as part of a series of air strikes, artillery shelling and explosions that hit various areas in the south, alongside ground movements near the town of Deir Mimmas and the presence of drones over Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The town of Shaqra was subjected to Israeli artillery shelling, while an Israeli force advanced from the southern side towards the outskirts of Deir Mimmas in the Marjayoun district, specifically towards the olive groves, according to the Lebanese National News Agency. In a statement, the Deir Mimmas municipality urged residents “not to go at present to the fields or olive groves, for security reasons”.
Deir Mimmas municipality warns residents
The municipality called on residents to comply with the warning until Monday, after which it will issue a new notice in line with security and field conditions. In a related development, a drone was reported flying at low altitude over Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday morning, while air and military activity continued in several areas of southern Lebanon.
Israeli warplanes carried out a series of strikes on Jabal al-Rafeea in the Iqlim al-Tuffah heights. Artillery shelling also targeted the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun and the Wadi Hassan area during the early morning and morning hours. After midnight, Israeli forces carried out explosions described as heavy in the towns of Baraashit and Haddatha, as part of ongoing operations in a number of southern villages and towns.
Casualty toll since March
The centre added that the overall toll since 8 October 2023 had risen to 8,953 killed and 30,649 wounded, according to cumulative data issued by the Lebanese Health Ministry. The current phase of the war in Lebanon began on 2 March 2026, after Hezbollah launched rockets at northern Israel, saying they were in response to the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Since then, Israeli forces have carried out air, ground and artillery operations in Lebanese areas and have remained stationed in a number of southern towns. A ceasefire was announced on 20 June 2026, but Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon continued after the announcement.
Military activity eased from late June following the Iranian-American memorandum of understanding and the framework agreement between the Lebanese and Israeli governments, although strikes, land-clearing operations and the demolition of homes continued in southern areas.
