Syrian singer Asala Nasri is preparing to perform in Damascus on September 17, 2026, marking her first musical appearance in the Syrian capital in 15 years after spending years outside the country following her declared support for the uprising that began in 2011.
A message to Damascus audiences
Asala announced the concert on her official page on Sunday evening, addressing a message to her audience in Damascus in which she expressed her longing for them and said she would make up with them for what she had missed during her years away.
My people in al-Sham, we will meet
Syrian actresses welcomed Asala's return. Actress Mona Wasif said: “The daughter of al-Sham has returned to al-Sham,” while actresses Wafaa Mosally and Rouaa Yassin expressed their happiness at her return.
Under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture
Culture Minister Mohammed Yassin Saleh described the Syrian singer as “the daughter of al-Sham.” The ministry reaffirmed its patronage of the concert amid rumors that it had been canceled. It also closed comments on a Facebook post about the event.
Absent since 2011
Asala, who was born in Damascus in 1969, was among the first Syrian artists to announce their support for the 2011 uprising. She left Syria after facing campaigns by the former regime's media and having her name removed from the Artists Syndicate, and has lived outside the country ever since.
Asala is one of Syria's most prominent female singers and achieved widespread fame across the Arab world through the diversity of her songs and the power of her voice.
