The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Monday that they had carried out 356 operations targeting Houthi reinforcements and military capabilities over the previous 24 hours on several fronts. Its spokesman said the operations had, according to field estimates, killed or wounded 476 members of the group. The official spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Colonel Majed al-Nazili, said the forces had carried out the operations using capabilities he described as diverse and modern.

Houthi positions targeted on several fronts

He added that the strikes targeted Houthi positions on the western coastal, Haradh, Al-Tuwal, Kataf, Al-Buqaa and Ali fronts, as well as in Al-Jawf, Marib, Lahj, Taiz and Al-Bayda. Al-Nazili said the operations had resulted in the destruction of several command-and-control centres and weapons depots, in addition to Houthi field artillery.

He also said that many of the group's crews, vehicles and other military equipment had been destroyed or disabled, without providing a detailed breakdown for each front or type of equipment targeted. The military spokesman accused the Houthis of using civilians as human shields, saying the group had turned schools into command-and-control centres, weapons depots and forward military supply stores.

Allegations of using schools and civilians as human shields

Among those facilities, he named Abu Ayyub al-Ansari and Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman schools in Taiz. Al-Nazili added that residents had been forced to send their children to study at the two schools while members of the group continued to be present there. He described this as a violation of international and humanitarian laws and norms, as part of what he said was an ongoing practice of using civilians as human shields.

Colonel al-Nazili stressed that the armed forces would continue their operations against what he described as legitimate military targets belonging to the Houthis. He also called on those he described as misled members of the group to leave it and save themselves while they were still able to do so, urging them to take this step as soon as possible.

The military spokesman released a video recording that he said documented targeting operations carried out by the armed forces against Houthi members and equipment, alongside the statement presenting the operations' toll and the locations where they were conducted over the 24-hour period.
