Yemeni government forces announced on Saturday evening, 3 October, that they had carried out 257 targeting operations against what they said were Houthi positions, movements and military capabilities in several governorates and on battlefronts. They said the operations used warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles and rocket launchers.

Scope and stated objectives of the operations

Colonel Major Majed al-Nazili, the official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, said the operations covered Sana'a, Midi and Baqim, as well as the fronts in Al-Jawf, Marib, Al-Bayda and Lahij. He added that operational efforts were focused mainly on the fronts in Taiz governorate, in south-western Yemen.

He said the strikes had directly affected the group's combat capability and limited its ability to continue what he described as attacks on civilians in their homes and villages. The announcement came as battles continued between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis on several fronts in Taiz governorate.

Battle developments on the Taiz fronts

Government forces are fighting with support from the popular resistance and warplanes, amid combat operations focused on several axes inside the governorate. On the Sama front, government forces said they had made field advances and taken control of Sama Fort and the surrounding areas.

They said the takeover followed battles in which the Houthis suffered heavy losses in personnel and equipment, while government forces and the resistance continued pursuing the group's personnel in the area. In the early hours of Saturday morning, government forces said they had repelled a large Houthi attack, accompanied by heavy fire support, on Jabal Han and other positions on the western front of Taiz city.

They added that they had repelled the attack and forced the attackers to retreat, saying that several of them had been killed, wounded or captured.

Clashes are also continuing on the battlefronts in the districts of Al-Shamayatin, Al-Ma'afer and Jabal Habashi, where government forces, backed by the resistance, are fighting the Houthis alongside continuing operations in Sama and several other Taiz fronts.
