Military confrontations in Yemen have forced thousands of families to leave their areas in six governorates, while other families have traveled by sea toward countries in the Horn of Africa, amid warnings that the humanitarian crisis could worsen and that displaced people’s basic needs are growing.
Displacement figures recorded since September
In a broader estimate, Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, said that at least 18,000 families, or about 125,000 people, had been displaced in Yemen since the beginning of September 2026, as confrontations continued on several fronts.
The Executive Unit warned that displaced families were living in harsh conditions and lacked basic necessities, foremost among them shelter, food, drinking water, health services, sanitation and protection. It called on humanitarian partners and UN agencies to provide an immediate, life-saving response, prioritizing children, women, older people and people with disabilities as families continued to flee areas of fighting.
