More than 122,000 displaced people increase pressure on Marib camps

Yemen’s Executive Unit for Internally Displaced Persons Camp Management announced that more than 122,000 people had been displaced across eight governorates as a result of the military escalation. Camps in Marib have received arrivals from other areas, increasing pressure on displacement sites in the governorate, which hosts the largest concentration of displaced people among the areas covered by monitoring operations.

Yemen’s Executive Unit for Internally Displaced Persons Camp Management announced that more than 122,000 people had been displaced across eight governorates as a result of the military escalation, as the number of arrivals at camps in the eastern governorate of Marib increased, adding pressure on existing shelter sites. The displaced people reached Marib from other areas where fighting had taken place, placing additional burdens on the camps as displacement continued.

Marib prepares to receive new displaced families

The influx of new families is adding to the needs of a governorate that is already receiving large numbers of displaced people from different Yemeni governorates. Presidential Leadership Council member Sultan al-Arada said on 13 September 2026 that arrangements had been made to receive displaced people arriving from the coast, provide for their needs and ensure suitable conditions for them.

He added that those arriving would find their community and people in Marib, affirming that residents of the governorate stood by them. The new wave comes as Marib is the main destination for displaced people in areas under the internationally recognised Yemeni government.

Marib hosts the largest concentration of displaced people

The International Organisation for Migration’s Displacement Tracking Matrix estimated that the number of displaced people living in accessible sites in the governorate stood at about 1,879,652 by the end of May 2026, representing about 60% of the total number of displaced people covered by its assessment in those areas.

The organisation’s data showed that Marib received 286 displaced families between the beginning of April and the end of June 2026, accounting for about 62% of new displacement cases recorded by the matrix in the governorates covered by monitoring during the second quarter of the year.

In a separate monitoring operation on the repercussions of the escalation on the western coast, the International Organisation for Migration recorded the displacement of about 112,818 people between 7 June and 16 September 2026. Most headed to Taiz and Lahj, while 456 people reached Marib as part of the movement the organisation was able to monitor.

Figures released by the Executive Unit and the International Organisation for Migration indicate that displacement has continued alongside the fighting, while Marib’s camps are facing increasing pressure as new families arrive in a governorate that already hosts the largest concentration of displaced people among the areas covered by monitoring operations.
