The Global Alliance for Palestine announced that 200 organisations in 60 countries were taking part in an international action spanning six continents, calling on civil society organisations, trade unions, student unions and human rights networks to organise events in support of Palestine. The action is backed by the anti-apartheid movement and the Global Coalition Against the Israeli Control of Palestine.
Aims of the action and demands of participating organisations
In a statement, the alliance said the campaign aimed to demand accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity, the application of international law, and restrictions on the arms trade with Israel. The participating groups also intend to direct their actions towards government and commercial institutions linked to Israel’s military supply chains.
The planned events include demonstrations, sit-ins, and cultural and educational activities in several cities, including London, Sydney, Cape Town, São Paulo, Rabat, Quito, Mexico City, Istanbul, Santiago, Reykjavík, Bangkok, Athens and Kuala Lumpur. The alliance’s secretary-general, Dr Anas al-Tikriti, said: “After 3 years of continuous genocide and the escalation of settler violence sponsored by Israel, the myth of restraint and the hollow promises of international diplomacy have been completely exposed.”
We are rallying on every continent to defend Palestinian land, end the genocide, halt military supply lines, demand that international law be enforced for everyone, and bring Israeli war criminals to trial
Legislative pressure to review arms exports
Alongside popular mobilisation, the campaign is calling for legislative action by pressuring parliamentarians to hold emergency debates and submit questions on arms exports. It includes international organisations and coalitions, among them the Stop the War Coalition and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in the United Kingdom, the Union of Palestinian Entities in Latin America, and the Australian Palestine Advocacy Network.
The participants also include Viva Palestina Malaysia, Make Care, CodePink, Workers for Palestine, and the Palestine Solidarity Alliance in South Africa, as part of the organised action in the participating cities and countries.
