The average price of diesel at filling stations across the European Union reached a new record of €2.23 per litre, compared with €2.16 the previous week, according to an analysis of national data published by the European Commission on Thursday.
Record prices in 19 countries
The data, published weekly since 2005, showed record prices in 19 of the EU’s 27 member states, including Germany, France and Italy, amid energy shocks caused by the war in the Middle East and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Denmark and Finland recorded the highest prices, with a litre of diesel, also known as gas oil, costing €2.56 in both countries. They were followed by Germany at €2.46, Belgium and France at around €2.40, and Italy at around €2.30.
Prices rise but remain below 2022 peak in Spain and Sweden
Diesel prices rose in Spain and Sweden but remained below the peak recorded in 2022 following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The European Commission’s Oil Bulletin publishes the data weekly after receiving it from national authorities.
