Midland Oil: Production at 100%, plan to return to 160,000 barrels per day

Midland Oil Company announced on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, that it had signed new contracts to sell and transport oil through the strategic pipeline and Basra outlets, as it works to raise production rates and meet the needs of refineries and power plants in the coming days.

Plan to increase production

The company's director general, Mohammed Yassin Hassan, said Midland Oil's production is currently at 100% and could exceed that level depending on the needs of power plants and refineries. He pointed to a plan to increase production in line with market demand and sales by the State Oil Marketing Organization, or SOMO.

Hassan said the company had been producing 160,000 barrels per day before the export crisis, after output rose from around 90,000 barrels per day in 2023 to 160,000 barrels per day in 2025. He said regional military escalation had caused production rates to decline.

Sales via tanker trucks and transport routes

Hassan added that the company had signed contracts to sell oil via tanker trucks, with Midland Oil responsible for producing the crude and transporting it through the strategic pipeline or Basra outlets, while SOMO would handle the sales.
