AMD to Acquire AI Company World Labs for $8.2 Billion

Chipmaker AMD said on Monday it would acquire San Francisco-based World Labs in an $8.2 billion all-stock deal. World Labs is an artificial-intelligence models and research laboratory led by Fei-Fei Li. The deal is intended to strengthen AMD's ability to develop AI hardware, software and systems tailored to the needs of emerging models and applications. Once the deal closes, Li will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist, reporting to Chief Executive Lisa Su. Su said: "Fei-Fei and the World Labs team have exceptional expertise in leading research and developing models. Together, we can leverage this expertise to develop the hardware, software and systems that will power the next generation of AI and strengthen the open AI ecosystem."
