South Sudan's Kiir dissolves government ahead of first general election
South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit dissolved the unity government, parliament and state governments, appointing officials to run them ahead of elections on 22 December. Legal amendments and the concentration of powers in the president's hands have drawn opposition, legal and human rights concerns, amid delayed voter registration and incomplete key provisions of the peace agreement.
