The death toll from the attack on a mosque and police compound in the north-western Pakistani city of Kohat has risen to 22, with 103 injured, according to subsequent statements by health and investigative officials. The attack began when a vehicle packed with explosives detonated during Friday prayers, after which gunmen attempted to storm the compound and clashes broke out with security forces.
The initial death toll from a car bombing followed by gunfire inside a police compound in the northern Pakistani city of Kohat has risen to 31, including 16 police officers, with more than 100 people injured. A security official said attackers remained holed up inside the Special Branch section as an exchange of fire continued.
Six Pakistani soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive device struck a security convoy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in north-western Pakistan.
