Ebola deaths exceed 3,900 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded 8,067 confirmed Ebola cases and more than 3,900 deaths, as treatment centres face overcrowding and infection clusters expand because of travel between cities. The World Health Organisation warned that the current outbreak could surpass the West African outbreak of 2014 to 2016, and classified it as a public health emergency of international concern.
